THE annual Jack Boulton day at Saltford Sports Club raised about £10,000 for charity.
The event is held in memory of Jack Boulton, a talented young sportsman who died aged 17 of a sudden cardiac arrest in 2009.
The senior game on June 21 between teams from Saltford and Longwell Green old boys was a one-sided affair, with Longwell comfortably winning the match played in a good spirit.
Other games featuring teams from Saltford’s junior section also took place to add to the inclusivity of the day.
A raffle was held, topped by an auction with several high-value donations to attract the bidders. A barbecue ran for nine hours to keep the crowd fed through the heat of the day and into the evening, when the event concluded with live music from the Moonshine 59 band.
The winner of the Jack Boulton award went to Andy Martin for his commitment to the club to ensure stability and provide a platform for growing local talent.
Proceeds from the day are being split between Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and Brain Tumour Support.
The organisers thank Dave Boulton, and Iain and Adam Rider for their organisation, Dan and Anna Maggs for their generosity and hard work with the raffle and auction, and Kip and Lia for running the barbecue.
