Keynsham crash survivor thanks ‘true lifesavers’

A MAN has been reunited with the ambulance crew who rescued him after a crash on the Keynsham bypass.

Clive Harding was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision on January 6 last year. After the initial impact, Clive was struck by another car.

A team from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) attended the scene to deliver emergency care.

Clive was then taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol before receiving further treatment at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath.

He suffered fractures to his skull, vertebrae, ribs and collarbones, a total of 26 fractures overall, and needed 50 stitches. He spent a month in hospital before continuing his recovery at home in Bath.

Now Clive and his partner Lyn have been reunited with paramedics Charlie Carter and Scott Currie, and emergency care assistant Guiseppe Giannitti, who treated him at the scene of the accident. The reunion took place at Keynsham Ambulance Station.

Clive said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be reunited with Charlie, Scott and Guiseppe. They were there for me when I needed it most and I will be forever thankful to them.

“If it wasn’t for their quick actions, professionalism and calmness, my outcome could have been very different. They are true lifesavers.”

Paramedic Charlie Carter said: “It is fantastic to see Clive recovering so well. Being part of a patient reunion is a really special experience and is something the crew and I will always remember. We wish Clive and Lyn all the best for the future.”

Clive, who retired last March, is currently undergoing physiotherapy at the RUH to regain movement and flexibility.
