Community orchard celebrates anniversary

VOLUNTEERS gathered at the Broadlands Community Orchard in Keynsham to celebrate the project’s first anniversary.

The first trees were planted at the orchard, between Winscombe Close and St Anne’s Avenue, this time last year.

Since its official launch in October 2025, just over 800 spring bulbs – including crocuses, wild tulips, snake’s-head fritillary, daffodils, camassia, snowdrops and bluebells – have been planted and blossom has been appearing on the trees.

To mark the anniversary, a fruit tree care workshop open to volunteers and local residents was held at the orchard by Janine Connor, a community orchard expert from the Forest of Avon Trust.

She helped to guide the formative pruning of the orchard trees, which include several varieties of apple, a pear, a damson, an apricot and a mulberry.

The group are looking to grow the community caring for and enjoyment of the community orchard and are launching a regular monthly meet there every second Sunday of the month from 10am-11am from Sunday April 12.
