Queens Road eyesore set for demolition

A DERELICT building on the Queens Road shopping parade in Keynsham is to be demolished.

It is believed that the lean-to structure has been unused for at least two decades.

Alan Hale, Independent councillor for Keynsham South on Bath & North East Somerset Council, said housing association Curo had agreed to remove the unit after representations from one of his constituents.

The constituent had been in contact with Curo about the matter since August 2022 to try to get the matter resolved.

“This eventual outcome from CURO is very, very pleasing and I have to commend and thank my constituent for his tenacity and commitment towards this outcome.”

Cllr Hale added that, about 12 years ago, he had asked Curo if the lean-to could be restored as a sheltered meeting place for young people, but Curo declined on the grounds that it would be unsafe.

He said every trader on the shopping parade is doing their best to keep the area looking tidy and planters have been planted to bring some colour to the area.

“This area is important to people on the Park Estate and well used and so the appearance should not be dragged down by the empty and dangerous unit.”

Regarding the demolition, a Curo spokesperson told the Voice: “We can confirm that we will be doing the work and currently have no plans to put anything in its place.”
