CHILDREN of all ages at a Keynsham nursery are confident, happy and enjoy their time there, an Ofsted report has revealed.
Pirates and Princesses Day Nursery, based in the High Street, has retained its Good rating from the organisation.
Following an Ofsted inspection on February 27, its report stated that the nursery was Good in all the areas covered, namely overall effectiveness, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
Staff provide a relaxed and calm environment for children, said the report, and are very responsive to children’s needs.
They work closely with parents to follow children’s routines and care practices with sleep, toileting and mealtimes to help them to precisely tailor their care.
The nursery has forged strong partnerships with parents, who say they are their children are very happy. They feel that their children are well looked after, and staff keep them well informed about their children’s progress.
Children have lots of opportunities to have fresh air and exercise, where they enjoy themselves and develop good physical skills. Older children learn to balance as they ride scooters and do obstacle courses, while the younger children develop their walking and learn to go up and down the slide.
Managers and staff consider children’s needs and interests when planning the environment. They have introduced a quiet sensory area and have developed the creative space to give children more independence.
There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children’s interests first.
Ofsted said that to further improve the quality of the early-years provision, the nursery should continue to develop the curriculum to give older children more challenge in their learning. It should also develop the organisation of routines to maximise children’s learning opportunities.
The nursery, which was registered in 2020, provides day care for children up to four years old from Monday to Friday. Its previous inspection was in January 2023.
At the time of the inspection, it had 14 members of staff working with the children. There were 49 places and 78 children on its roll.
