KEYNSHAM Town under-10s have capped a remarkable two seasons by reaching four consecutive cup finals and lifting three trophies, underlining the progress of a squad that continues to grow in confidence on and off the pitch.
Coached by Darren Knowles and Dan Pitt, the side are preparing to move from under-10s to under-11s after five years of development, commitment and team spirit.
The squad has 18 players, nine of whom have been with the club since the age of five. Those nine were recognised at the team’s Christmas party for reaching the milestone of more than 100 appearances for Keynsham Town – a significant achievement at such a young age.
The team’s journey began four years ago in Division 2 of the HML Sunday League. A strong first season, built on clear player development and steady improvement, earned the squad promotion to Division 1.
Since stepping up, the players have more than met the challenge. They reached two cup finals, narrowly missing out in the Autumn Cup before bouncing back to win the Spring Cup later that season. Their league form has also remained highly competitive, with the team continuing to test themselves against strong opposition.
This season brought another major step forward. Keynsham Town went one better in the cup competitions, winning both the Autumn Cup and the Spring Cup to make it four finals in a row and three cup victories across two seasons.
The players have also enjoyed busy summers of tournaments across the Bristol area, where they have continued to develop, compete and enjoy their football. Coaches believe the disappointments along the way have been just as valuable as the victories, helping the children build resilience, character and teamwork.
Coach Darren Knowles said: “We are immensely proud of this group of young people. Watching them grow in confidence, develop as footballers and, more importantly, become respectful, resilient and hardworking young people who genuinely love the game is the greatest reward we could ask for.”
The coaches also place a strong emphasis on recognising every player’s contribution. At the end-of-season celebration, each child receives an individual award, from save of the season and most Improved player to playmaker of the year, coaches’ player and goal of the season.
Darren added that the team’s progress would not have been possible without the support of parents, who turn out week after week in all weather and help create a positive environment around the squad.
Now, attention turns to next season, when the side will move up to under-11s and continue their development in what is expected to be a strong Division 1.
