CUSTOMERS have reacted with sadness to the closure of Savour Farmshop & Kitchen.
Announcing the news on Facebook, owner Cat Midgley said: “Sadly, I am now able to confirm the rumours. We have closed Savour Farmshop & Kitchen permanently.
“I would like to thank the staff, past and present, and all our customers (especially the regulars) who have made the place so special to be and work every day.
“I am proud that we created a space where people felt welcome and safe to come with friends, or come alone and leave with friends.
“This community was the reason we kept the business going for so long, but unfortunately we can no longer keep up with the rising costs.
“I am not sure what the future holds, but I will still be around Keynsham, so I hope you say “Hi” if I bump into you.”
Cat took over the former Temple Street Canteen in January 2020, shortly before the Covid lockdowns began. In 2024, she unified the cafe with the neighbouring farm shop and deli she had opened previously, under the new Savour Farmshop & Kitchen brand.
Customers paid tribute to the joyful sense of community the venue fostered and Cat’s vision, courage and determination.
One said: “Savour was my favourite shop. I loved everything you did, you will be hugely missed.”
Another local business, Heavenly Hedgerows, said of the closure: “It’s also a poignant reminder of just how tough things are for independent businesses right now. If we value these unique places that bring so much to our communities, we all need to support local whenever we can.”
Keynsham Community Fridge, which used to be hosted by Savour, has found a new home in the ground floor of the library. It runs from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.
Meanwhile, Blend, the independent café in Market Walk, was also due to close, on August 29.
It said on Facebook: “No drama, no juicy gossip…The truth is we’re running two family businesses, and we’ve decided it’s time to put a bit more into family life.”
One customer said: “Loved it all these years, going to be such a huge blow for the families and the community overall.”
The news about Savour and Blend follow the recent closures of the Grounded coffee shop and the Cinnamon Indian restaurant in the High Street.
