20mph limits proposed for ‘the lanes’

A REDUCED 20mph speed limit has been proposed for two stretches of road referred to locally as ‘the lanes’ between Saltford and Keynsham.

The new limit would affect Manor Road, starting about 700 metres east of its junction with the B3116 Wellsway road and extending east for about 680 metres.

It would also affect Courtenay Road, starting about 450 metres east of its junction with the Wellsway and extending east for about 680 metres.

The new limit would then align with the 20mph limits imposed on linked roads to the west in Keynsham and to the east in Saltford.

Bath & North East Somerset Council proposed the traffic regulation order (TRO) following a request from Saltford parish councillors and Keynsham town councillors.

A decision will be made in due course following an assessment of replies to a public consultation on the proposed TRO, which ended last month.

The proposal has been welcomed by Duncan Hounsell, B&NES ward councillor for Saltford.

He said: “I fully support this speed limit reduction in these narrow lanes, which are well used by pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders. This measure will help highway safety, especially benefiting schoolchildren from Saltford.”
