Saturday charges proposed at Bath Hill East car park

SATURDAY parking charges may be introduced for drivers using Bath Hill East car park, under proposals from Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Charges currently apply Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm.

B&NES Council says: “Saturday charges already apply at other council-owned car parks, including those in Keynsham, Midsomer Norton and Radstock. This revenue funds maintenance and improvement costs, and all car parks in these towns remain free of charge on Sundays.”

Charges in B&NES Council car parks in the district vary according to vehicle’s emissions, based on the idea that “the polluter pays.”

At the Bath Hill East car park, the charges are currently £1 to £1.60 for two hours, £2 to £2.80 for four hours, £4 to £5.40 for eight hours and £5 to £6.60 for 10 hours.

These fees would remain the same under the council’s proposals for 2026-27.

The council is also considering a rise in the cost of on-street parking permits in residents parking zones (RPZs) and removing the discount for electric vehicle (EV) permits, aligning them with the tariff for the least polluting vehicles.

It also proposes increasing the ‘up to 24-hour’ parking charge at its park-and-ride sites from £3 to £4 for motorists who do not use the bus service. This change would take effect from October 2026.

The council says: “We want to discourage long-stay parking by those who do not use the bus service to free up limited space for those who do, particularly at peak times. This will ensure our P&R services are effective in encouraging sustainable travel.”

B&NES Council says its proposals are aimed at improving road safety, supporting sustainable travel, and ensuring the financial sustainability of its parking services.

A public consultation has opened on the proposals and runs 5pm on Friday November 7.
