Stormy encounter for Keynsham charity walkers

A KEYNSHAM couple have gone the extra mile to raise money to help those affected by motor neurone disease.

Jonathan and Katrina Southgate stepped out with their border terrier Rubble to take part in a nationwide fundraising walk. In response to the ‘75 miles in October’ challenge issued by the MND Association charity, they clocked up 101 miles between them.

The couple work for financial adviser Southgate Wealth Management – Jonathan as director and Katrina as marketing manager. Their efforts raised £163 from supporters, which Southgate Wealth Management topped up with a £150 donation, bringing the total to £313.

On one of their walks, when Storm Amy hit in early October, Jonathan, Katrina and Rubble narrowly missed an oak being uprooted by Parkhouse Lane.

Jonathan said: “Taking part in this challenge was a great way to stay active, get out with Rubble, and support such an important cause. The MND Association does incredible work for people living with motor neurone disease, and we’re proud to help raise both funds and awareness for their efforts.”

The charity is dedicated to improving care, funding research, and campaigning for people affected by motor neurone disease – a life-shortening neurological condition that attacks the nerves controlling movement.

Southgate Wealth Management began supporting the MND Association this spring, initially through sponsoring a charity cricket match for former England international and Gloucestershire player David “Syd” Lawrence, who died from the disease shortly afterwards. Since then, the firm has continued its partnership, helping raise awareness and funds for the charity’s life-changing work.
