A RACE night in memory of Keynsham junior doctor Daniel Money will be held next month to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Keynsham Rugby Club will host the event in their clubhouse on Friday March 13 at 7pm.
Daniel attended Chandag and Wellsway schools and went on to study medicine at Birmingham University. He remained in Birmingham for his F1 and F2 junior doctor years.
He was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 bowel cancer aged 24 in November 2022, with his diagnosis and prognosis coming as a complete shock to him, his family and friends.
As a junior doctor, Daniel knew how important up-to-date research is in helping increase treatment options for people undergoing chemotherapy.
He chose Cancer Research UK as the charity he wanted to raise money for, as the research they fund is crucial in the search for new treatment options, early diagnosis and hopefully cures for all cancers.
Daniel died on September 11 last year at Birmingham Hospice. He was 27.
His family and friends want to continue fundraising for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in his memory. The current total raised for CRUK is just over £87,000, and his girlfriend Abbie has raised over £14,000 for Birmingham Hospice in Daniel’s name.
All proceeds from the race night will go to Daniel’s Giving Page on the Cancer Research UK website. After their first thrilling race night in 2023, organisers are looking for local organisations and businesses to sponsor and name each of the eight races for a minimum donation of £25. They are asked to email Teresa on tkp7ovg@hotmail.com
A raffle will also be held on the evening, giving attendees the chance to donate more money and win some great prizes. Once people have bought their ticket, they will receive further information about how they can own and name a horse for a race.
Individual tickets cost £7, while tables of eight are £50. People are advised to get their tickets early as they are limited. To buy tickets, email Teresa on tkp7ovg@hotmail.com
Anyone who is unable to attend but would like to donate is asked to do so through Teresa’s Giving Page at CRUK’s fundraising website.
