Keynsham care home duo take the plunge

TWO Keynsham care home colleagues have raised more than £1,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society after taking on a 10,000-foot skydive.

Sarah Phelps and Maddie Hewer from Meryton Place Care Home made the daring leap at Old Sarum Airfield in Wiltshire.

The pair free-fell for 30 seconds before their parachutes opened, and they safely landed back on solid ground.

Care home business administrator Sarah said: “We had beautiful weather for it, and it was amazing. By far the best bit was the landing and having my feet back on firm ground!”

Receptionist Maddie added: “The plane ride up was my favourite part because it was really calm and peaceful, but physically jumping from the plane was definitely the scariest bit!”

The skydive was organised as part of Dementia Action Week, which encourages people to take action to improve the lives of those living with dementia.

Sarah added: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us and donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.

“Working in the care sector means we see first-hand the impact dementia can have, not only on those living with the condition but also on their loved ones.”
