CONSTRUCTION of a new shared pedestrian and cycle route connecting Keynsham town centre to the A4 Bath Road is due to start early this month.
The project is expected to take eight months to complete once work begins.
The news comes after almost 11 months of disruption on the A4 caused by roadworks connected to Curo’s new Withies Green housing estate, for which traffic controls were due to end on July 31.
In a letter to nearby residents, the contractor, Galtec, says the new shared route scheme has been commissioned by Bath & North East Somerset Council as part of the West of England Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.
It states: “Subject to final scheduling by B&NES Council, works are expected to begin in the first week of August and will be carried out in sections, starting near the entrance to Memorial Park on Bath Hill and continuing to Bath Road (B3115), opposite the Wellsway Sports Centre entrance.”
Galtec says that, to help minimise disruption, traffic management measures will generally operate between 9.30am and 3pm during school term time, with extended hours during school holidays.
As the work progresses, either two-way or three-way temporary traffic controls will be used, depending on the location.
Where possible, road resurfacing will take place in the evening to reduce daytime disruption. Temporary pedestrian crossing points will be provided to maintain safe access.
Access to residential driveways and business premises will be maintained throughout the project.
