WORK to build new homes on the former Tintagel Close site in Keynsham is ahead of schedule.
Curo and development partners EG Carter invited community representatives to check progress at the site, where a new neighbourhood of ‘affordable’ homes is beginning to rise.
Attendees included representatives of Keynsham Town Council, Bath & North East Somerset councillors and members of the neighbouring Queen’s Road Methodist Church.
Cllr David Biddleston, who represents Keynsham South on B&NES Council, said that “local people are absolutely buzzing” about the development.
Demolition of the old flats started in January this year. There is no sign now of 1970s development that once dominated the area, as the foundations for the 45 new homes are laid and timber frames are constructed.
Curo estimates finishing ahead of schedule, with the neighbourhood now more likely to be completed in 2027 than in early 2028.
The new complex will feature landscaping including trees and hedgerows, and new community facilities, including accessible play areas.
The 100% ‘affordable’ scheme will offer a range of homes, from one-bed flats to four-bed family houses, each with its own parking space and electric vehicle charging provision.
The homes will be fitted with energy-efficiency technology, including air source heat pumps, solar energy and heat recovery systems. All the properties will have an EPC ‘A’ rating, the highest standard achievable.
A total of 34 homes will be available for subsidised social rent, offered through Bath & North East Somerset Council’s lettings system. The remaining 11 will be available for shared ownership purchase.
