University honours Richard at Saltford care home

A RESIDENT of a Saltford nursing home has been honoured for 60 years of service to the University of Bath.

Richard joined the university planning team before a single brick was laid and spent the first three decades contributing to its development.

He later became a professor of university management and administration, inspiring generations of students and colleagues through his teaching and leadership at home and in developing countries around the world, especially in Africa.

Richard was previously awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to higher education.

The university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Phil Taylor, recently visited Kingfisher Lodge care home in Saltford to present Richard with a president’s medal in recognition of his dedication and lasting contribution to the university community. The occasion was attended by members of Richard’s family.

Richard said: “I feel so honoured to receive this award but also so grateful and proud of the years I spent at Bath University. I really have enjoyed my career.”
