Grasmere Hotel on the corner of Chandag Road

PROPOSALS to turn the Grasmere Hotel in Keynsham into nine homes have been withdrawn.

Haywards Group Ltd submitted a planning application to Bath & North East Somerset Council earlier this year.

The proposal would have involved demolishing the side and rear extensions of Haywards at the Grasmere and changing the use of the hotel building near Chandag Road.

At the time, Keynsham Town Council commented that the loss of the hotel would be detrimental to the growing town.

They said: “Not only the hotel provision but the community asset of a local restaurant will be lost.”

In June, the hotel made a statement on Facebook to clarify they are “not going anywhere”.

One commenter said they were “devastated” at the prospect of the community asset closing down.

A spokesperson for the hotel said: “At present, there are no further plans to comment on, and the hotel will continue operating as usual.”

The spokesperson did not comment when asked if revised proposals may be submitted in future or the reasoning behind the withdrawal.
