Keynsham swimmers excel at championships

KEYNSHAM Amateur Swimming Club was represented by an incredible 52 swimmers at the Somerset ASA County Championships.

They competed against 21 other clubs from across the county, including strong programmes such as Millfield Swimming, Taunton Deane Swimming Club, Team Bath AS and Wells Swimming Club.

Keynsham swimmers delivered an outstanding set of performances at Millfield Pool in one of the biggest events in the county swimming calendar. Across five days, the team secured 49 top final placings and brought home an impressive 23 medals.

Several swimmers also achieved qualifying times for the South West Regional Championships in April and May, a significant step up in competition and a reflection of the club’s continued progress.

Among the Keynsham club’s successful swimmers were sisters Daisy and Lily Stephens, aged 10 and 13 respectively, who achieved third place in their respectively 100m breaststroke heats.

The girls, from Belluton, near Pensford, share a serious commitment to the sport, which involves at least three or four two-hour training sessions each week.

Their mother Natalie Stephens said: “What keeps them motivated is not just the racing, but the community that surrounds the sport.

“Meeting new people, making friends across different clubs throughout Somerset, and competing alongside so many talented athletes has been a constant source of inspiration. Every gala brings new experiences and opportunities to learn.”

As a volunteer-run club, Keynsham ASC relies on the commitment of parents, officials and supporters who give their time poolside and behind the scenes to ensure athletes can train and compete at this level.

This latest county performance demonstrates the depth of talent coming through its ranks, with regional representation now firmly in sight.
