COMPTON Dando’s community village fete proved to be another big success.
The final amount raised will be divided between the village hall, St Mary’s Church and Compton Dando Community Association.
Among the stalls at the fete was one selling cookies to support a local farmer who has lost between 60 and 80 chickens to a fox.
Friends of Roger Carpenter set up the stall to raise money towards some new chickens for Nutgrove Farm.
Stall organiser Jonathan Tassell said the fox had managed to evade Mr Carpenter’s attempts to keep the chickens safe.
“Roger has tried new fencing and electric wire and still had a rough time, so we decided to try and help.”
The stall sold about 75 cookies, which were a mix of chocolate chip, Kinder Bueno and salted caramel, and raised £173 for Nutgrove Farm.
The stall also sold Pimm’s and lemonade, raising over £300 for Compton Dando Community Association.
Three families were involved – Gemma, Jonny and Evie (aged 13) from Compton Dando, with their neighbours Jack, Janet and Gigi, 4, as well as family friends Kate Stark and her children Charlie and Amelie, who drove up from Bude. Also lending a hand were Jack’s sister Gemma Gooding and her partner Rich.
