THE annual Jack Boulton Day took place at Saltford Sports Club on Saturday July 4.
The event is held in memory of Jack Boulton, a talented young sportsman who died aged 17 of a sudden cardiac arrest in 2009.
The senior game between teams from Saltford and Longwell Green old boys was a much more competitive game this year, with Longwell winning 3-2.
The game even saw two under-13 debutants for both sides, with Freddie Rider donning the shirt for Saltford and Jack Summers for Longwell Green. Other games kicked off the day featuring teams from Saltford’s junior section, which added to the inclusivity of the day.
A raffle was held, topped by an auction to attract the bidders. A barbecue ran for five hours to keep the crowd fed into the evening, when the day concluded with live music from The Bristols.
The winner of the Jack Boulton Award was Sam Jones for his commitment to the club and for driving the team ethic across both the men’s first and reserves team.
The whole day was another big success, raising £3,000 to be split between Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and Brain Tumour Support.
A huge thank-you to everyone who came along, donated, bought raffle tickets, placed bids in the auction and supported the day in any way. Special thanks to Longwell Green Sports FC for their ongoing support, not only raising a side for the main game against Saltford FC but also being so generous with the amount of money they contributed to both charities.
To all the incredible staff at Saltford Sports Club, committee and volunteers – thank you for hosting the event and your hard work behind the scenes. After all these years, Jack’s legacy lives on.
